Abstract

Highlights: Cholesterol-lowering statins may improve cancer prognosis but effect on glioblastoma (GBM) is largely unexplored. A recent study suggests preoperative statin use does not significantly affect GBM outcome. Statin use prior to diagnosis may confer benefit to GBM prognosis however more rigorous, prospective study is needed. Abstract: Cholesterol-lowering statins have been postulated to improve cancer outcomes by many unconfirmed mechanisms. The prognosis of glioblastoma (GBM) remains dismal, and there is a paucity of evidence regarding the potential for preoperative statins to exert a benefit upon prognosis. In light of a recent report, the current evidence in the literature regarding statin use affecting GBM prognosis is discussed.
