- Graphical abstract: A new 2, 6-di(anthracen-9-yl)pyridine ligandL reacts with various silver(I) salts to give three new complexes: mononuclear [AgL (NO3 )] and [AgL ( i -PrOH)2 ] (BF4 ), and dinuclear [AgL (μ-H2 O)AgL ] (BF4 )2 ·3CH2 Cl2 complexes. The silver(I) complexes are active photocatalysts for MB degradation under sunlight irradiation. Abstract: A new 2, 6-di(anthracen-9-yl)pyridine ligandL reacts with various silver(I) salts to give three new complexes: mononuclear [AgL (NO3 )] and [AgL ( i -PrOH)2 ](BF4 ), and dinuclear [AgL (μ-H2 O)AgL ](BF4 )2 ·3CH2 Cl2 . The complexes have been characterized by spectroscopic techniques and elemental analysis. The solid state structures of the complexes have been determined by X-ray diffractometry. Methylene blue (MB) degradation was studied by UV–Vis spectrophotometry. The new complexes of silver(I) are active photocatalysts of MB degradation under sunlight irradiation.
