Abstract

Abstract: A new species of Corynopuntia, Corynopuntia deinacantha D. Donati (Cactaceae), is described and illustrated from the state of Coahuila, northeastern Mexico. It is morphologically similar to Corynopuntia grahamii (Engelm.) F.M. Knuth and Corynopuntia aggeria (Ralston & Hilsenb.) M.P. Griff., but it differs in body size, some traits, and ecology. Diagnostic morphological characters from related taxa are discussed and organized in a taxonomic key. Information on species ecology, karyology, biogeography and demography is also provided.
