- Abstract : The effect of zinc, an important element in the learning and memory process, on neurotransmission in a single‐cell model of transmitter release has been studied by amperometric methods. In their Communication onpage 4970 ff., A. G. Ewing and co‐workers show that zinc not only changes the vesicle content in PC12 cells, but also the dynamics of individual exocytosis events leading to a longer and more stable fusion process. This finding might suggest a mechanism for how zinc affects this key cellular process to alter cell‐to‐cell communication.
