Abstract : A woven carbon fiber filament coated with a nanocomposite consisting of amine functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes and a room temperature ionic liquid was used as the anode and cathode. Shewanella algae were grown anaerobically in a mediatorless two-chambered microbial fuel cell. The thus-prepared cell revealed a current density of 319.11 mA m −2 and a power density of 245.71 mW m −2 both considerably higher than most previously reported values.
