- Graphical abstract: Highlights: High resolution cryo-EM ryanodine receptor (RyR1) structures have been determined. The structures reveal binding sites for Ca 2+, ATP, caffeine and ryanodine. The structures have been compared with an InsP3 receptor structure. RyR structures provide insights into Ca 2+ and ATP binding sites in InsP3 receptors.
