- Highlights: The prechamber combustion characteristics were studied. The torch flame and the knocking phenomena were observed. Combustion field temperatures of the knocking were estimated. Abstract: The prechamber combustion characteristics were studied using a rapid compression and expansion machine (RCEM) to improve the efficiency of cogeneration natural gas engines. The torch flames generated by a prechamber were used to investigate the effect that a prechamber has on the main combustion. In this study, we focused on observing the correlation between the torch flame and the main flame (which is a so-called "prechamber combustion") as well as the knocking phenomena for various prechamber configurations.
