- Abstract: The simple and cost-effective detection of uric acid in serum or urine is highly desirable as uric acid acts as a biomarker for various diseases. Herein, we report a rationally designed, non-enzymatic probe for the detection of uric acid in serum samples over a wide range of concentrations (lower: ∼60 μM, higher: ∼700 μM and normal: ∼120–380 μM) with 'turn-on' fluorogenic behaviour. Highlights: First report of non-enzymatic 'turn-on' fluorogenic detection of uric acid (UA). A non-invasive method that discriminate UA from other analytes in serum sample. Probe8 utilizes hydrogen bonding interactions for uric acid detection. A wide range of concentrations was detected with probe8 .
