Abstract:: Abstract: Herbert Morris Bower (1854–1940) was an eminent scholar of folklore, and a member of The Folklore Society. This article pays tribute to him for having written one of the earliest scholarly descriptions of the Festa dei Ceri (Festival of the candles) in Gubbio (Italy), in his book The Elevation and Procession of the Ceri at Gubbio (1897).
