Abstract

Abstract : Blue emitting phosphorescent monocyclometalated Au III complexes were obtained by tailoring substitutions at the phenylpyridine ligand scaffold with electron‐withdrawing groups at the phenyl ring to achieve stabilization of the HOMO and an electron‐donating group on the pyridine ring to destabilize the LUMO, resulting in a large energy gap. This bestowed the gold complexes with emission at high energies with excellent CIE‐1931 chromaticity coordinates and high quantum efficiencies of up to 28 %.
