Abstract

Abstract : Although Russians have expressed an interest in genealogy for centuries, it became a serious historical discipline only in the Soviet period. A progression can be detected over time from the accumulation of raw, often faulty data on links within various noble clans through the careful documentation of sources and improvement of method and technique, to real analysis within a historical context.
