- Highlights: The study of conformity currently suffers from definitional ambiguity. Conformity and conformist transmission are distinct majority influences. These majority influences are defined in terms of individuals, not mere occurrences. The majority of individuals does not necessarily equal the majority of occurrences. Majority influence can only be identified with individuals' observation records.
