- Highlights: The research method in this article is different with most studies in this field. This article offered an effective way to achieve the folded flame pattern. The folded pattern was validated as an effective LNBs technology. The conclusions are expected to help engineers applying this technology. The mechanism behind the flame pattern was summarized. Abstract: In this study, we validated the Low-NOx strategy of the folded flame pattern based on a fuel-staging natural gas burner. Firstly, we proposed an improved scheme based on an in-service fuel-staging burner following the Low-NOx strategy. Next, we analyzed the modeling results of two-type burners, which were carried out by the commercial CFD software FLUENT 13.0. Finally, this article offered three major conclusions: the improvement method used in this article was validated as an effective way to achieve the folded flame pattern; the folded flame pattern can help to moderate the combustion reaction and improve the local hot spot in temperature field; the folded pattern improvement can bring a significant and steady NO reduction based on a fuel-staging burner; the mechanism behind the variation of the flame pattern should be considered as a criterion for further examination of the folded flame pattern.
