Abstract

Abstract : Eight [2+2] Schiff base macrocyclic dinuclear Zn II complexes, bearing extended dialdehydes (Cl‐dialdehyde and Me‐dialdehyde) with the same cyclohexyl pendant arm but different rigid 1, 2‐diamine and flexible 1, 8‐diamine components [diaminomaleonitrile, 1, 2‐diaminobenzene, and 1, 2‐bis(2‐aminoethoxy)ethane] have been successfully constructed with use of the zinc ion template in the presence of different counterions. The use of different electron‐withdrawing and electron‐donating substituents (Cl, CH3 ) in1a and1b, respectively, leads to distinguishable spectral behavior of the corresponding Schiff base macrocyclic dinuclear Zn II complexes. The auxiliary‐coordinated or ‐uncoordinated halide counterions (Cl, Br, I) in2 and3 result in varying structural characteristics. Abstract : Eight [2+2] Schiff base dinuclear macrocyclic Zn II complexes, bearing different rigid 1, 2‐diamine and flexible 1, 8‐diamine components, have been successfully constructed by zinc ion template‐assisted syntheses.
