Abstract

ABSTRACT: Nonprofit human service organizations (NPHSOs) have evaluation capacity deficits that hinder efforts to meet accountability demands and improve programs. Data from a capacity-building experiment were analyzed using an efficacy subset approach to assess evaluation capacity impacts, controlling for NPHSOs' ( n = 261) motivation to receive help and amount of grant assistance. Compared to a control group, NPHSOs that received evaluation-related assistance experienced self-reported gains in four out of five evaluation capacities, though smaller and younger NPHSOs were less likely to experience gains compared to larger and older NPHSOs. Amount of grant assistance received was not associated with gains.
