- Abstract: Nanoparticles are small sized particles which are widely used in different diagnostic procedures, drug designing and drug delivery including biomedical research. Although the nano size particles have a great possibility to use in different biomedical research and therapy but the possible toxic health effects of these nano particles associated with human exposure is a serious concern and some application remain challenging. NPs are small size and due to this property they can cross the different biological barrier.Therefore, present study is designed to see the effect of AuNPs on RBC. Citrate stabilized AuNPs were synthesized by standard procedure and characterized. Blood samples were collected from mice. 20 μl of blood mixed with 1 μl of specially prepared buffer. To three different sets of test tubes different concentration of AuNPs i.e., 1×10 -3 mmol, 2×10 -3 mmol, 3×10 -3 mmol, 4×10 -3 mmol and 5×10 -3 mmol were added while 1% SDS was added for positive control. Simultaneously blank was prepared using distilled water instead of AuNPs or SDS. All the test tubes were kept for 45 minutes at 37°C and centrifuged at 2000 rpm for 10 minutes. Absorbance of supernatants was measured at UV spectrophotometer at 540 nm. RBC lysis was observed in a dose dependant manner i. e. more the concentration of the AuNP the more RBC lysis was found. All experimental data were taken in triplicate sets.
