Abstract

Abstract: The importance of involving stakeholders in sustainability policymaking is widely recognized. Current methods of stakeholder involvement in environmental policymaking neither systematically identify stakeholders based on their roles in sustainability nor understand them from a behavioural level; moreover, strategies formulated to address the problems do not explicitly address possible conflicts among different policies. To fill these gaps, an integrated framework for stakeholder identification, understanding, engagement and role management is proposed. This framework is based on extensive review and application of principles in sustainability, life cycle assessment, behavioural science, soft operational research and coherently integrated sustainability policymaking.
