Abstract

Abstract : The Cover shows the photocatalytic conversion of the renewable sugar glucose using visible light resulting in the formation of gluconic acid, arabinose, erythrose and glyceraldehyde. In their Full Paper, L. Da Vià et al. describe how plasmonic silver nanoparticles supported on titania are capable of valorising glucose to small chain monosaccharides and oxidation products with a selectivity of >98% at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The reaction is proposed to proceed via a combination of an α‐scission and Ruff degradation mechanism. The catalyst was recycled with no loss in activity and was proven to be resistant to leaching.
