- Abstract: In this study, Ba0.88- x Al2 Si2 O8 :0.12Eu 3+, x Tb 3+ (0≤ x ≤0.12) and Ba0.88 Al2 Si2 O8 :0.12Eu 3+ phosphors are prepared by the solution combustion method. The phosphors crystallize in the hexagonal crystal system along with a space group of P6/mmm. The photoluminescence properties are substantially improved by the doping of Tb 3+ ions to the Ba0.88 Al2 Si2 O8 :0.12Eu 3+ phosphor, which is attributed to the efficient energy transfer from Tb 3+ to Eu 3+ . The emission intensity at 612 nm of the Ba0.82 Al2 Si2 O8 :0.12Eu 3+, 0.06Tb 3+ phosphor is over three times higher than that of the Ba0.88 Al2 Si2 O8 :0.12Eu 3+ phosphor. The incorporation of Tb 3+ to the Ba0.88 Al2 Si2 O8 :0.12Eu 3+ phosphor is a highly promising way for enhancing photoluminescence properties.
