- Abstract: The reaction of nitriles (I) with methyl mercaptoacetate (II) gives rise to intermediate thieno[3, 2‐c]pyran‐4‐ones, which react with hydrazine hydrate to afford desired thieno[3, 2‐c]pyridin‐4‐ones (III).
