- Graphical abstract: Mononuclear zinc complexes with chiral tetra-azane ligands have been synthesized and fully characterized. All of the zinc complexes were tested in the ring-opening polymerization of rac -lactide. The zinc complexes are efficient initiators for the ring-opening polymerization of rac -lactide, yielding heterotactic-rich polylactide. Abstract: A series of zinc complexes supported by chiral tetra-azane ligands, (1R, 2R)-[(NHAr)C6 H4 CHN]2 C6 H10 (L 1 H2 (Ar = 2, 6- i Pr2 C6 H3 );L 2 H2 (Ar = 2, 6-Et2 C6 H3 );L 3 H2 (Ar = 2, 6-Me2 C6 H3 );L 4 H2 (Ar = 4-MeC6 H4 )), were synthesized via the reactions of the corresponding ligands with ZnMe2 . These complexes were well characterized by NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The molecular structures ofL 2 Zn (2 ) andL 3 Zn (3 ) were further confirmed by X-ray diffraction studies. The zinc complexes are efficient initiators for the ring-opening polymerization of rac -lactide, yielding heterotactic-rich polylactide.
