- Abstract: In the light of the ongoing developments towards more and more sophisticated driver assistant systems and the surge of higher automation levels in driving, new concepts are required. With the increase of automated vehicles, the cooperation between the automation system and the human driver becomes crucial. For this purpose, the application of shared control and its extension cooperative guidance and control to the field of automated driving is very promising. Shared and cooperative guidance and control of automated vehicles enable a dynamic distribution of control and responsibility. Empirical studies show on practical implementations of cooperative guidance and control, H-Mode and StrAsRob show that cooperative guidance and control is not only theoretically appealing, but is also well accepted by potential human drivers.
