- Abstract : (Abstracted from Br J Anaesth, 116(1):90–99, 2016) Although general anesthesia and sedation have been used during transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), the difference in safety and efficacy of both methods has not been adequately explored. Researchers sought to remedy that situation by undertaking this study, known as the INSERT (near infrared spectroscopy in aortic valve replacement) trial, which delved into the use of moderate to deep sedation versus general anesthesia during the said procedure.
