- Abstract: Herein, enhanced red emission (670 nm) of Mg0.1 Zn0.9 O phosphors was obtained through the localized surface plasmon (LSP) resonance of Ag nanoparticles following an enhancement in the local electric field, as demonstrated through experimental and theoretical studies. Interestingly, with an increase in the Ag doping amount (x), the intensity of the red emission increased, reaching a maximum at x = 0.1%, followed by a decrease due to plasmon reabsorption and a reduction in the degree of overlap between the excitation peak of Ag-Mg0.1 Zn0.9 O and the LSP resonance absorption peak of Ag nanoparticles. Additionally, an enhanced white fluorescence was observed from Ag-Mg0.1 Zn0.9 O phosphors prepared via a two-stage annealing process. These findings will be useful in the development of display devices with a high emission efficiency. Graphical abstract: Highlights: Ag-Mg0.1 Zn0.9 O phosphors were prepared through the sol-gel process. The enhanced red and white fluorescence were observed from the Ag-Mg0.1 Zn0.9 O phosphors. The enhancement was due to the LSP resonance of Ag nanoparticles.
