Abstract

Abstract : An interesting specimen of Lobelia L. collected from the lateritic plateau of northern Kerala, India is described and illustrated as a new species, Lobelia lammersiana . This rare species grows in the marshy area around the ponds on the lateritic plateau. The new species shows similarities to Lobelia alsinoides Lam. in the trichomes at the apex of stamens and in the characters of calyx lobes, fruit and seed, but differs in having terete stem, minute leaves, subequal corolla lobes and a quadrangular style.
