- Abstract: In this paper, we report on the structure, magnetic transition and the magnetostrictive effect in B-substituted MnCoSi alloys. By replacing 2% Si with B, the room-temperature critical field is sharply reduced to 0.8 T and the temperature of tricritical point is tuned down to be around 270 K. As the results of these improvements, large reversible magnetostriction under reduced driving field is achieved at room temperature in textured MnCoSi0.98 B0.02 alloy. Graphical abstract:
