Abstract

Abstract : (Abstracted from Lancet 2016;387:2125–2132) An anthropod-borne virus, Zika (genus Flavivirus ), since its identification in 1947, has spread throughout the Americas, with 28 countries having reported cases of the disease. The Zika virus has been associated with Guillain-Barré syndrome (an autoimmune disorder that causes acute or subacute flaccid paralysis) and the birth of babies with neurological complications, such as congenital microcephaly (a neurological birth defect).
