Abstract

Abstract : Academic motivation, learning strategies, and sports anxiety are important to assess when considering the well-being of a Division III student–athlete. The purpose of this study was to identify the learning and motivational academic strategies of Rowan University first-year student–athletes enrolled in Rowan 101 course by utilizing the Motivational Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ). Another goal was to examine if a correlation existed among trait sports anxiety and academic motivation and learning. The final goal was to provide student–athletes with classroom strategies. Results were based off of the MSLQ and the Sport Anxiety Scale-2. The results of this study proved test anxiety was significantly correlated with SAS-2 variables, worry, and concentration disruption; MSLQ variables Elaboration and Organization were significantly correlated along with Elaboration and Self-Regulation and Self-Regulation and Self-Efficacy for Learning and Performance; and a statistical significance between GPA and Self-Efficacy for Learning and Performance was found.
