Abstract

Abstract : This article undertakes a description and analysis of several kinds of cadastral maps held at the Library of Congress and other institutions that were generated shortly after the British takeover of the Ceded Islands (1763), with a focus on the island of Dominica. This little-studied subject will provide information on not only the resources and maps for this geographic area, but also biographical information relating to the principal surveyors and planters of Dominica, who contributed to some of the earliest maps of that island.
