Abstract

Abstract : A Co8 building unit in the form of a windmill with 16 divergent arms (pyridyl–carboxylate ligand), a world first, was found in three metal–organic frameworks. It has an unusual nearly square‐planar µ4 ‐O bridge at the core. Its connectivity to the neighbors is controlled by the metrics and rotational degrees of freedom of the connecting ligands, which consequently gives rise to different structural topologies, gas sorption, and magnetic properties; it may be suitable for carbon dioxide capture.
