Abstract: A catalyst free three‐component reaction of 3, 4, 5‐trimethoxybenzoic acid with sulfonamides or carboxylic amides and DMSO as methylene source proceeds through a Pummerer‐type rearrangement to provide a convenient access to N‐substituted isoindolinones.
