Abstract

Abstract : Abstract : The reactions of 1, 4‐diazabutadienes1 with HClO4 were studied in detail. The final products obtained were not the hydroperchlorates of1 but imidazolium perchlorates2 or3 . A possible reaction process is postulated on the basis of the isolation of theintermediate 2‐iminomethylimidazolium salt4 . The factors influencing the conversion of4 to the imidazolium perchlorates2 and3 were discussed with regard to the electronic and steric effects of the N ‐substituents. This reaction can serve as an approach for the synthesis of imidazolium derivatives.
