- Graphical abstract: Highlights: New synthetic method for pyrrolo[3, 2- b ]indole has been developed. Method involves Cu catalyzed intramolecular CN coupling. The scope of the reaction is verified using various protecting groups at amine. The method is mild and efficient for the synthesis of pyrrolo[3, 2- b ]indoles. Abstract: A new synthetic approach for the synthesis of pyrrolo[3, 2- b ]indoles has been developed in two steps. First step involves electrophilic iodocyclization of protected 2-alkynylanilines to regioselective formation of pyrroles followed by copper catalyzed intramolecular CN coupling.
