- Graphical abstract: Two organic–inorganic compounds based on Keggin anions and lanthanide ions have been synthesized. They have been structurally characterized by single-crystal X-Ray diffraction, IR, thermal analyses and cyclic voltammetry measurements. The catalytic ability of these species for the discoloration of dyeaqueous solutions has been investigated. Abstract: Two organic–inorganic compounds based on Keggin anions and lanthanide ions have been synthesized. Their chemical formulae are [Eu(C2 H6 SO)8 ][PMo12 O40 ] (1 ) and [Er(C2 H6 SO)8 ][PMo12 O40 ]·2(C2 H6 SO)·1/2H2 O (2 ), respectively. They have been structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, thermal analyses and cyclic voltammetry measurements.1 and2 crystallize in the space groups P 1 ¯ and P 21 / c, respectively. Their catalytic activity toward organic dyes is quite sizeable since the target removal after 120 min is about 78.6% in the presence of the system [Eu(C2 H6 SO)8 ][PMo12 O40 ]/H2 O2 and 60.3% in the presence of the system [Er(C2 H6 SO)8 ][PMo12 O40 ]·2(C2 H6 SO)·1/2H2 O/H2 O2 .
