- Abstract: Mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) are the largest precipitation producers in terms of total accumulated precipitation and are, therefore, the focus of this study. For this analysis, the MCSs forming within the Rocky Mountain portion of the Arkansas‐Red River Basin were studied in April through September in 1996–2006. Once variables favourable for the initiation were determined, statistical analyses were performed on the variables. Presented are the general results of an analysis of the multiple linear regressions and principal component analyses showing that in each area where MCSs initiate, the most favourable conditions for initiation are unique.
