Abstract

Abstract : (Abstracted from Lancet 2016;387:566–573) Worldwide, breast-feeding remains a key time during which mother-to-child transmission of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) occurs. Interestingly, despite breast-feeding being recommended up to 12 months after birth, strategies to prevent postnatal mother-to-child transmission of HIV-1 in Africa, including infant prophylaxis, have never been assessed past 6 months of breast-feeding.
