Abstract

Abstract : (Abstracted from Crit Care Med, 43:1630–1637, 2015) External ventricular drains (EVDs) and lumbar catheters (LCs), which are crucial for cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) drainage and control of intracranial pressure after surgery, are associated with increased risk of ventricular meningitis (VM). Bacteria, most commonly staphylococci, form biofilms on the shunt and can infect the patients at various points throughout the perioperative process.
