Abstract

Abstract : The front cover picture shows an allergic nose being held captive by a birch tree, a common source of allergens. The worried tree is attacked by acetylated trivalent mannobiose glycoclusters, able to suppress the allergic response when immune cells from people suffering from allergies are exposed to allergens. Such glycoclusters are potential adjuvants for allergen immunotherapy which currently is the only way of treating the underlying pathological immune response associated with allergies. Two new such glycoclusters were prepared in this work, based on a previously identified lead molecule. All three molecules were then subjected to conformational studies and biological evaluation.
