- Abstract : On page 557, M. Yang, Y. Zhang, and C. Mao show how Cu ions released from the Cu‐bearing biomedical titanium alloys break the membranes of the bacteria, induce the production of excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) and interfere with gene expression. Together, these effects cause the killing of Gram‐positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and lead to the excellent antibacterial properties of the Cu‐bearing biomedical titanium alloys.
