Abstract

Abstract : The cover picture shows some typical structures of semisynthetic cyclic peptides that were made by a novel method in which the synthetic and genetically encoded fragments are ligated by using protein trans ‐splicing and oxime ligation. The incorporation of unnatural building blocks into the synthetic fragments allows the synthesis of macrocycles containing, for example, lipopeptides andd ‐amino acids. The yin‐yang ring in the middle represents how the contrary features of synthetic and recombinant parts compliment each other in a single semisynthetic macrocycle. The approach offers the potential to select new macrocycles from large libraries in which the genetically encoded part is randomized. More information can be found in the communication by H. D.
