- Graphical abstract: Abstract: The inhibitive activities of the human immunodeficiency virus protease inhibitors ritonavir (RTV) boosted indinavir (IDV) and RTV boosted lopinavir (LPV) for erythrocytic stage malaria were evaluated in rhesus macaques. The IDV/RTV regimen effectively inhibits the replication of Plasmodium knowlesi with clinically relevant doses, whereas the LPV/RTV regimen did not show activity against plasmodium infection.
