- Abstract : Obstet Gynecol Surv 2016;71(1):9–11 Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a serious public health problem. It is defined as glucose intolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy and is associated with short- and long-term complications for both the mother and the child, including newborn macrosomia, obesity in the offspring, and an elevated risk to the mother of developing type 2 diabetes.
