Abstract: One-pot, three-component preparation of the pyrrolizidine and pyrrolizinone derivatives in moderate to good yield is reported. The synthesis is facilitated by microwave irradiation of proline, aromatic aldehyde, and 1, 3-diketone such as 2-arylmethylene-indene-1, 3-dione and 4-hydroxycoumarin in 1, 4-dioxane or xylene. This method provides a quick access to the multi-functionalized pyrrolizidines and pyrrolizinones. Graphical abstract:
