- Highlights: Four SiC–ZrC–HfC modified C/C composites were fabricated by PIP. C/C–SiC–ZrC–HfC composites have higher strength after ablation. SiC–ZrC–HfC modified C/C composites have better ablation resistance. Ablation production of SiC–ZrC–HfC modified C/C composites has less defects. Abstract: Carbon/carbon composites modified by HfC–SiC, HfC–SiC:ZrC–SiC (2:1), HfC–SiC:ZrC–SiC (1:2) and ZrC–SiC were ablated by oxyacetylene torch to investigate the effect of doped ceramic particles. Results indicated that the 1:2 possessed the lowest three point bending strength and the best anti-ablation property. The ablated surface morphologies showed that the SiC–ZrC–HfC modified carbon/carbon composites had compact polygon structures while the SiC–HfC and SiC–ZrC modified were porous. It was considered that both the structural parameters and thermal expansion of ZrO2 and HfO2 led to the above difference.
