- Abstract: Boiler undertakes the largest heat capacity transmission and exergy loss in a Kalina cycle system for power generation from waste heat source. In order to optimize the whole cycle, it is essential to conduct energy analysis and exergy analysis for the evaporation process in the boiler. The results show that there are optimized values of work concentration and evaporation dew-point temperature (corresponding to pressure) for better heat transfer process of boiler as well as for system performance. The optimized exergy and power recovery efficiencies of the Kalina cycle could be 18.32% and 48.32% respectively for temperatures of the heat source and cooling water as 300 °C and 25 °C respectively, with optimized evaporation dew-point temperature and work concentration are around 210 °C and 0.55 respectively. Besides, the optimized evaporation dew-point temperatures under various heat source temperatures have been obtained. Highlights: Boiler parameters of evaporation dew temperature and concentration are investigated. Identical optimum boiler parameter values are obtained by energy and exergy analysis. Studied heat source and cooling water temperatures are 300 °C and 25 °C respectively. Optimized exergy and power recovery efficiencies of Kalina cycle can be 48% and 18%. Optimized performance curves with 225–350 °C heat source are presented at x w = 0.55.
