Abstract

Abstract : Menstrual disorders affect up to 30% of women of reproductive age, and they can have a significant impact on their quality of life. Hysteroscopy is frequently used to assess and treat endometrial pathology, which can cause abnormal uterine bleeding. There is growing evidence that hysteroscopy is an essential tool in the outpatient management of patients. This chapter deals with the evidence surrounding the role of hysteroscopy in a range of menstrual disorders. Highlights: We examine the role of hysteroscopy in abnormal uterine bleeding. Outpatient hysteroscopy is cheaper and safer than procedures performed under anaesthetic. Both diagnosis and treatment can be implemented in one consultation ('one-stop' service). There is rapid development of technology to increase the feasibility of outpatient hysteroscopy.
