Abstract

Abstract : What's already known about this topic? In the late first trimester of pregnancy, women with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) have pregnancy associated plasma protein‐A (PAPP‐A) levels lower than women without IDDM. What does this study add? This study confirms that first trimester PAPP‐A is lower among women with IDDM compared with women without IDDM. A single adjustment factor (19% based on data from this study) is sufficient for PAPP‐A. A gestational age‐dependent adjustment factor is not needed. Free β‐hCG levels are also lower among women with IDDM compared with women without IDDM; however, the difference is small and does not warrant an adjustment.
