- Abstract : Fluorescent organic nanoparticles (FONs), made of self‐assembled solvatochromic fluorophores, represent a novel class of bright imaging agents. On page 2727, E. Ishow and co‐workers show how in cellulo studies evidence dramatic dissembling of FONs by macrophages compared to cancer cells. Macrophages disintegrate internalized yellow‐emitting FONs and expulse the individual components by excreting vesicles. Strong green fluorescence arises from the solvatochromic fluorophores dissolved in the rich lipid content of vesicles (Cover design: Nicolas Gazut).
