Abstract

Abstract : Methyl radicals bound to the surfaces of Pt 0 nanoparticles (NPs) suspended in aqueous solutions affects the chemical and physical properties of the NPs. Up to 75 % of the Pt 0 atoms surface can be covered and the rate constant, k ( . CH3 + Pt 0 ‐NPs), decreases with increasing surface coverage, leading to competing reactions that gradually become dominant, affecting the composition of the products (see figure). The results suggest that the methyls do not diffuse on the surface of the Pt 0 ‐NPs; in this respect Pt 0 ‐NPs differ considerably from Ag 0 ‐NPs and Au 0 ‐NPs.
