Abstract

Abstract : Tumour cell migration can be stopped by small molecules such as migrastatin, a natural product that inhibits tumour cell migration (μM range) in vitro. In their Full Paper onpage 18109 ff., P. Murphy et al. describe the synthesis and structure–activity studies of migrastatin and its analogues. Compounds were tested in vitro against both breast and pancreatic cancer cell lines and inhibition of tumour cell migration was observed in both wound‐healing (scratch) and Boyden chamber assays, with one analogue showing low affinity for a range of secondary drug targets, indicating it is at low risk of displaying adverse side effects.
